El Museo Nacional de Colombia

The premier museum of Colombia, and one of the oldest on the American continent, has an extensive collection from the realms of art, archaeology, history, and ethnography. The National Museum of Colombia has become essential to the “must see” list of any museum lover.

Location: Ak. 7 #28, Bogotá, Colombia.

Entry is free to permanent exhibits.

Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 6pm, Sunday 10am - 5pm.

National Museum Bogota Colombia

El Museo del Oro

The Museum of Gold is located in downtown Bogotá is home to the largest collection of prehispanic goldsmithing, with over 34,000 pure gold artifacts, as well as some made of tumbaga, a mixture of gold, copper, and silver.

Once here, you will be able to see up close the famous Balsa Muisca (a golden ceremonial raft), a piece that represents the sacrificial rituals of the Laguna de Guatavita, the basis for the legend of El Dorado.

Location: Carrera 6 #15-88, Bogotá, Cundinamarca, Colombia.

Entry is $3000 COP (around $1 USD) and free on Sundays.

Museo de Botero

With more than 80 period pieces and 100 pieces of Botero’s own authorship, between sculptures and paintings, the Botero Museum is located in a colonial house in the Candelaria.

It maintains the same showing that Botero himself put together for the opening of the Museum in the year 2000. Currently, this collection is among the most important in the world of modern art in Latin America and hosts more than 500,000 visitors each year.

Location: Calle 11, Carrera 4-93 Bogotá, Colombia.

Entry is free.

Hours: Monday - Saturday 9am - 7pm (closed Tuesdays). Last entry is 30 mins. before closing.

Botero Museum Bogota Colombia

Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (MAMBO)

For over 50 years, the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art has been an ideal place for lovers of modern and avant-garde art. The MAMBO houses works of painting, photography, sculpture, installations, and more.

Location: Calle 24 #6 - 00, Bogotá, Cundinamarca, Colombia.

Entry is $4000 COP (approx. $1.35 USD).

Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 6pm, Sundays 12 noon - 4:30pm.

Museo de Historia Natural

Part of the Institute of Natural Sciences of the National University, the Natural History Museum is one of the most important museums of Latin America thanks to its ongoing research. The exhibitions, through diverse objects and specimens, explain human history from the beginnings of the universe up to the modern era. The museum invites visitors to explore the relationship of humanity with the environment and the steps that each of us can take toward appreciation, care, and conservation.

Location: University City, Bogotá campus on the first floor of the Instituto de Ciencias Naturales, building 425.

Entry is $3000 COP (approx. $1 USD).

Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 12 noon, and 2pm - 5pm (entry until 4:30pm).
